IHOP: Community Involvement

At IHOP, we are committed to being a strong corporate citizen. Both IHOP and the franchisees that operate our restaurants are proud to support the communities in which we conduct business. We support a wide variety of causes ranging from national charities to local organizations. For more information about our policy regarding charitable contributions, please click here.

IHOP: National Pancake DayNational Pancake Day 2009
In celebration of IHOP's fourth National Pancake Day on February 24, 2009, IHOP invited all of its guests to enjoy a free short stack of its famous buttermilk pancakes and, in return, collected donations for Children's Miracle Network, or other local charities.

National Pancake Day 2009 raised more than $1.3 million on behalf of children's charities, and IHOP gave away more than 2.5 million pancakes!  Thanks to the generosity and support of guests, IHOP franchisees and employees, thousands of children across the country will receive valuable access to healthcare services, research and education.

Since beginning its National Pancake Day Celebration in 2006, the IHOP system has raised more than $3.25 million to support charities in the communities in which IHOP operates.  To learn more about IHOP's National Pancake Day Celebration, please visit www.ihoppancakeday.com.

IHOP franchisees are very active in their local communities; below are some of the ongoing efforts they support throughout the year.

Richard "Kim" Herzer Scholarship
IHOP created the Richard "Kim" Herzer scholarship in 1998 in honor of former Chairman and CEO Richard "Kim" Herzer to commemorate his 30th anniversary with the company, and has continued the program in his memory following his death in 2004.  IHOP and franchisee employees, their spouses, children and grandchildren are eligible for the scholarships, which are awarded based on academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, extracurricular activities and financial need.  Since its inception, IHOP has awarded more than $175,000 in scholarships to eligible employees and their family members.

Kansas
In August 2006, IHOPs in the Kansas-City area kicked off a special school supply collection for local kids in need with a pretty sweet event: a syrup swim! The event featured two players from the local professional soccer team, the Kansas City Wizzards, who volunteered to dive into the child’s wading pool filled with 100 gallons of syrup to collect as many coins as possible from the bottom of the pool. For each coin collected, Kansas City IHOPs donated 1,000 times the coin’s value. In just a short period of time, a total of $1,500 was raised and later donated to the Family Conservancy for the school supply drive.

Texas
The spirit of giving was alive and well during the 2006 holiday season at two Dallas-area IHOPs. The restaurants supported two very important causes: helping soldiers who have been seriously injured in Iraq, and helping the family of a local police officer killed in the line of duty. Local News Talk Radio 820 AM broadcasted live from IHOPs in Grand Prairie and Fort Worth during its annual “Hal’s Angels” (named for the morning deejay) holiday fund-raiser. Donations from IHOP guests and local residents poured in, and the events raised $13,000 for injured soldiers and $22,000 for the officer’s family.

Utah
In 2006, Utah IHOP restaurants collected new school supplies to donate to area schools and gave away free pancakes for those guests who donated supplies. In just two weeks, IHOP collected supplies that benefited elementary schools in 18 different communities throughout Utah, which have nearly 9,000 students combined. In addition, the IHOP restaurants hosted a free breakfast and gave pancakes to all of the teachers who teach at the 18 selected schools.

Arizona
Each spring, Arizona IHOPs support Childhelp, one of the oldest and largest national nonprofits dedicated to the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect. Guests of IHOP restaurants statewide who purchase $2.00 pledge cards to support Childhelp receive $2.00 off their next meal at any IHOP restaurant in the state. Since the partnership started in 1999, IHOP has raised more than $275,000 for Childhelp.
